Company history: how it began
Col C S Ahluwalia started a guarding business in 1976; it was incorporated in Delhi on 6 December 1977 as Premier Security Services Private Limited. Col Ahluwalia died in 1977, the year of incorporation. The company lay dormant until 1983, when his son, Capt Pawanjit Ahluwalia (Retd), revived it on leaving the Army. He is its chairman today. It has stayed on the same registration throughout, and took the name Premier Shield Private Limited in 2006.
Capt Ahluwalia’s service to the profession is on the record too. He was president of the Council of International Investigators in 2003, and the Council has given him its Meritorious Service Award (2007) and Malcolm Thompson Award (2012). In 2013, he was named Investigation Personality of the Year at the Security Skills Leadership Summit. He has also served on the Board of Governors of the Central Association of Private Security Industry (CAPSI), advised the Association of Private Detectives and Investigators (APDI), and chaired the Security Sector Skill Development Council’s sub-committee on national occupational standards for private investigators.

The training institute
NISSMAT — the National Institute of Security, Safety, Management and Applied Technology, the training institute and think-tank in the same group — was established in 1990 in New Delhi.
Its history page records where it began: in-campus courses for private security guards, head guards and supervisors, then fire-services training run in tandem with Jawaharlal Nehru University, and second-career courses for ex-defence personnel entering the private security industry.

It is now a think-tank as well as a training institute. Its Speakers Forum ran an international webinar series from September 2020 to February 2022, and the conversation continues on the NISSMAT podcast, with interviews and analysis led by retired senior police, military and legal experts.
