Uttarakhand divides into the plains, where the plants are, and the hills, where the season is. In Haridwar, the SIDCUL estate at Bahadrabad runs multi-shift FMCG and pharma plants with large contractor and goods-vehicle volumes, and Udham Singh Nagar's estates at Pantnagar and Sitarganj and the older belt at Kashipur add three-shift plants and long unlit approach roads between the estates and the towns. Dehradun brings residential schools and university hostels, a teaching hospital at Rishikesh, Mussoorie's hotels and the Selaqui industrial area, and Haldwani and Kathgodam in Nainital carry Kumaon's wholesale mandis, transport yards and railhead. Haridwar must also absorb the Kanwar yatra and the Kumbh, so capacity planned on a normal week's numbers will be wrong there.

In the hills the work follows the yatra. The Kedarnath corridor through Sonprayag, Gaurikund and Guptkashi in Rudraprayag needs helipads, lodges and temporary bazaars covered for six or seven months and almost none once the shrine closes, and Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri set similar seasons in Chamoli and Uttarkashi. Hydro sites shape the rest: the Tehri dam and powerhouse, with pumped storage commissioning in stages, have restricted zones and a long reservoir perimeter, and hydro colonies and tunnel portals sit along the Alaknanda and the Bhagirathi.

What binds every hill posting is the road. In Pithoragarh, Almora and Bageshwar, two premises an hour apart on single-lane roads can need the same relief, roads close, and much of the country beyond Dharchula needs permits, so relief is held close to each site rather than sent up from the plains. Hill tourism adds its own rhythm: resort belts at Kanatal and Dhanaulti, the lake towns of Nainital and Bhimtal and the hotels around the Corbett gate at Ramnagar turn over guests by the week, so staffing there has to flex with occupancy.
